The study of a second language is compulsory at Ravenswood until the end of Year 9 and demonstrates the high value Ravenswood places on intercultural literacy and second language proficiency.

Research shows that learning a second language enriches and enhances children’s proficiency in their first language. Chinese (Mandarin) is offered as part of the core curriculum in Years 5 and 6, as an alternative to French.

Junior School students who wish to improve their writing and speaking skills in Chinese (Mandarin) have the opportunity to attend Mandarin Club. The club gives students, who already have a background in the language, the opportunity to improve their language skills in a fun and interactive environment, with a focus on conversation and communication skills.

Mandarin Club is run once per week before school.
